The greens at Silver Creek were constructed in accordance to the USGA recommendations. The South greens were built in 1992, the North in 1997 and the West in 2004.  The green is built in a series of layers which provides optimal growing and drainage properties. The following is a brief description of each layer of a green.

Subgrade

The green site is dug down approximately 16” down to a clay base. The clay base is shaped to conform to the slope of the finished grade of the green.

Drainage

A weeping tile drainage is dug into the clay base. The drain lines run laterally every 15 feet and drain away from the green to a downhill slope.

Gravel Layer

The entire subgrade and drainage system is covered with at least 4” of washed pea gravel and conforms to the final grade of the green.

Root Zone

The root zone is comprised of 90% sand and 10% organic matter and is applied to a depth of 12”. The sand used met with USGA specs for greens construction and  the organic matter is sphagnum peat moss.

Each green is surrounded with a 2” irrigation line with 4 sprinkler heads which operate at a pressure of 80psi. Once the final grade of rootzone is completed Bentgrass seed is applied at a rate of 1.5lbs/1000ft2. A high phosphorous fertilizer is put down after seeding and green is watered several times a day until germination. After a 4 month grow in period the green is ready for play.
